The story behind our headwrap

The story behind our headwrap

Posted by Andre Lopes on

About 20 years ago, I found myself searching for a headwrap to wear on the paintball field. I wasn’t looking for anything fancy—just something that worked, felt good, and stayed in place during a game. But no matter where I looked, I couldn’t find one. So I was able to borrow a headwrap from a teammate and decided to figure out how to make my own.

With the borrowed headwrap in hands, I tracked down the fabric and someone who could sew it together. After a few tries, I had my first custom-made headwrap. So to be safe, I made three, thinking I’d always have a backup.

The Unexpected

The first time I wore it on the field, my friends immediately noticed.
“Where did you get that?” they asked. When I told them I had it made, they started asking to buy one. At first, I just gave them away—I wasn’t thinking about selling them so by the end of the day, I didn’t have any left, only my own.

So, I went back and got 10 more made, thinking that would be enough to hold me over. But the same thing happened—players kept asking about them, and I ended up giving those away, too. Finally, a friend said,
“You better start selling those, or you’ll never have any left!”

That’s how it all began. I started selling the headwraps, and before I knew it, I was moving hundreds of them. Then thousands. Soon, I’d see them everywhere—on the field, at tournaments, even in magazines. Players kept telling me they couldn’t play without it, and the longer they used it, the better they got. Over time, the headwrap became part of the essential gear. It even got Softer, stretchier, and perfectly broken in.

Bringing the Headwrap Back

When I decided to get back into paintball and start making gear again, the head wrap was the first thing that came to mind. I remembered how much the players loved it and how important it was to their gear setup. However, I also remembered the feedback: players said the headwrap improved the more they used it. So, this time, I wanted to create a version that felt broken in right out of the box.

It took several months of searching for the right materials, but we finally found them. The new headwrap has the same style and feel as the original, but with one big improvement: it’s soft, stretchy, and lightweight from day one. There’s no need to break it in—it fits and feels like that favorite piece of gear we have in the gear bag.

Why it Took Time

This headwrap wasn’t something we could release until it was right. It wasn’t right to make another product — there's a feel to it. The goal was clear: when players put on the headwrap, they should feel the same way we did when we stepped on the field: “I’m ready to play right now.”
